Bats Roosting

With the September nights drawing in, Luke Kite has turned his attention to steel sculptures of Bats roosting among the Oak trees. They are a common sight on the late summer evenings in Shropshire on the outskirts of towns and villages, circling silently and swiftly to catch the insects still flying in the twilight.

Their steel wings are drawn like curtains around their foxy faces and short bodies, tiny claws holding onto the branches while they sleep. The wizened metal tree has just a few reddened Autumn leaves left, and clings to the root-oak below it.
